What the Plan Prices Leave Out

The plan cards above are the 1,000-contact entry prices. Four things push the real bill higher, and none of them shows up in that headline number.

Only annual prices are published

ActiveCampaign’s pricing page lists every plan as billed annually: Starter at $15/month billed annually, Plus at $49/month billed annually, Pro at $79/month billed annually and Enterprise at $145/month billed annually. No monthly price is shown, so choosing a plan from that page means paying for a year upfront. That commitment is the real friction for agencies trialling a tool for a client, startups with unpredictable list growth and seasonal businesses. Use the 14-day trial to build your core automations before you commit to the year.

New accounts pay for contacts they can’t email

For accounts created on or after November 3, 2025, every contact counts toward the plan limit: unsubscribed, bounced and unconfirmed included. Accounts created before that date are still billed only for active contacts.

On a list that has been running a year or two, that gap is large. An account with 1,000 active subscribers, 400 past unsubscribes and 100 bounces is billed for 1,500 contacts on the new rule.

The price climbs steeply with list size

Starter, billed annually, is $79/month at 5,000 contacts and $149/month at 10,000, and Starter stops at 10,000 contacts, so a bigger list means Plus or higher. ActiveCampaign prices the other plans above 1,000 contacts through a calculator on its pricing page, so check your own list size there rather than scaling the entry price.

Add-ons are billed separately

Custom reporting costs $159/month, each extra user seat costs $12/month, and SMS is a paid add-on. A realistic ActiveCampaign setup usually includes at least one of these.

Who Should Pay This

ActiveCampaign earns its price when you use deep automation together with the built-in CRM: lead scoring, branching on deal stage, sales pipelines. B2B teams with a sales process and stores with complex post-purchase flows get the most from it. If you mostly send newsletters and simple broadcasts, you are paying for depth you won’t use, and the annual-only billing makes that mistake expensive.
