Flodesk Dropped Its Unlimited Plan: What the New Pricing Means for You

By MailToolFinder Team · · 8 min read

Thousands of small business owners, designers, and solopreneurs chose Flodesk for one specific reason: a single flat monthly fee regardless of how many subscribers you had. That deal ended on December 2, 2025, when Flodesk retired the unlimited plan for new signups. Long-time members on the old plan kept their existing pricing—for now—but Flodesk has made no public commitment to honor it indefinitely.

Anyone evaluating Flodesk today is looking at a fundamentally different pricing structure. And anyone already on the platform needs to understand what comes next.

The short version: If you have under 1,000 subscribers and want Flodesk primarily for beautiful templates, the new pricing is still competitive. If you have a larger list—or were counting on flat-rate predictability as your business grows—it is time to run the numbers.

What Flodesk Changed, and Why It Matters

For years, Flodesk sold one plan: unlimited subscribers, unlimited emails, all features, one price. The flat-rate model was a direct attack on Mailchimp’s notoriously unpredictable subscriber-based billing that punishes growth. It worked. Flodesk grew quickly among designers, coaches, and creative entrepreneurs who valued simplicity and beautiful templates over deep automation.

In December 2025, that changed. Flodesk moved to three tiered plans based on active subscriber count—the same model it was positioning itself against. The company added new features to justify the shift: advanced analytics, abandoned cart workflows, countdown timers, and in-email polls. But the pricing structure is now indistinguishable from what most competitors offer.

Flodesk’s Three New Plans

All three plans include unlimited email sends. What differs is the feature set and—once you exceed 1,000 subscribers—the price scales with your list size.

Lite — starting around $25/month (approximately $19/month on annual billing)

Lite covers the basics: unlimited emails, Flodesk’s template library, forms, landing pages, and analytics. The catch is you are limited to a single automated workflow and you cannot remove Flodesk branding from your emails. That matters if you are sending to paying clients or building a premium brand. At this tier, you are effectively paying for access to the design tools with minimal automation.

Pro — starting around $28/month

For $3 more per month, Pro removes the workflow cap (unlimited automation sequences) and lets you strip the Flodesk badge from your emails. You also get one checkout, meaning you can sell a single digital product directly through Flodesk. This is the tier where Flodesk becomes a real business tool rather than a design-forward list manager. For most users comparing Flodesk to alternatives, this is the plan that makes sense.

Everything — starting around $54/month (approximately $49/month annually)

Everything adds unlimited checkouts and all of Flodesk’s e-commerce tooling. If you are selling multiple products, memberships, or newsletter subscriptions through Flodesk itself, this is the tier to evaluate. Below this tier, you will need a separate platform for anything beyond one product.

How Much More You Pay as Your List Grows

The old unlimited plan made Flodesk predictable. The new model does not. Here is where that bites hardest.

At 1,000 subscribers, the Pro plan is genuinely affordable—around $28/month is lower than most mid-range competitors at that tier. But subscriber-based pricing means the bill rises with every growth milestone. A creator who built their budget around a fixed Flodesk fee now faces an unpredictable cost curve.

Compare that to the old plan’s promise: your bill stayed the same whether you had 500 or 50,000 subscribers. That promise attracted people who were actively growing their lists and wanted to see revenue increase without email costs eating into it.

The new pricing also creates a gap between the Lite and Pro tiers that is functionally strange. The difference is only $3 at 1,000 subscribers, yet Lite caps you at one workflow—the kind of restriction that makes the plan nearly unusable for any real automation. In practice, almost every user needs Pro, not Lite.

MailerLite — The Closest Value Alternative

If the new Flodesk pricing does not work for you, MailerLite is the most direct replacement for the same audience.

MailerLite’s design quality has improved significantly and now rivals Flodesk’s on most template types. The free plan covers up to 500 subscribers with 12,000 emails per month—enough to run a real newsletter before spending anything. The Growing Business plan starts at around $10/month for up to 1,000 subscribers. The Advanced plan starts at around $20/month and adds the custom HTML editor, unlimited users, and website features.

The weakness: MailerLite’s automation interface is functional but not elegant. If you moved to Flodesk partly to escape clunky workflow builders, MailerLite will feel like a step backward in that specific area. Their template quality, while improved, still does not match Flodesk’s aesthetic consistency for visual-first brands.

MailerLite also tightened its free plan in 2025, cutting the free tier from 1,000 to 500 subscribers. The move was quiet and frustrated some longtime free users. Worth knowing before you assume the free plan covers your needs.

Kit (formerly ConvertKit) — For Creator Businesses That Need More Power

Kit (the platform formerly known as ConvertKit) is the other tool most frequently compared to Flodesk among creators, bloggers, and course sellers. It is significantly more powerful than Flodesk on automation and commerce, with tagging, segmentation, commerce features, and a creator-focused ecosystem built over a decade.

The free Newsletter plan is surprisingly generous: up to 10,000 subscribers with unlimited emails, forms, and landing pages. That is a meaningful amount of runway.

The paid Creator plan starts at around $39/month for up to 1,000 subscribers. Creator Pro starts at around $79/month at that same tier. Both represent Kit’s significant price increase in September 2025, when the platform raised rates across the board—some users reported paying more than twice what they had before, and the Creator Pro tier saw particularly steep increases.

If you are moving to Kit from Flodesk, you are getting more capability. You are paying for it too, and the price trajectory makes Kit an increasingly expensive choice as your list grows.

The weakness beyond pricing: Kit’s template editor is not in the same category as Flodesk’s. If your emails are central to your brand identity and you want them to look like a magazine, Kit’s drag-and-drop experience will disappoint. Many Kit users send plain-text or minimally styled emails by choice, but that is not the same as having strong design tools available.

Beehiiv — If Newsletter Monetization Is Your Primary Goal

Beehiiv is worth considering if you are building an audience to monetize directly through the newsletter itself rather than through products or services sold off-platform.

Beehiiv’s free plan covers up to 2,500 subscribers with no sending limits. The paid Scale plan (pricing starts in the mid-double-digits monthly—verify current rates at beehiiv.com/pricing) adds paid subscription infrastructure, ad network access, and advanced analytics. The platform is built specifically for newsletter operators who want to grow and earn from their audience.

The weakness: Beehiiv is narrow by design. It excels at newsletters and newsletter monetization. It is not a good fit if you need e-commerce automation, CRM-style contact management, or complex behavioral triggers. If you are a Flodesk user who primarily sends a regular email newsletter to your audience, Beehiiv is worth evaluating. If your use case involves product launches, client onboarding, or multi-step automation, it is not.

How to Choose After Flodesk’s Change

Run through these questions:

Do you have under 1,000 subscribers and primarily send beautiful emails? Flodesk’s Pro plan at ~$28/month is still competitive. The design quality is genuine, and the subscriber-based price is reasonable at small list sizes. If you are growing slowly and visual consistency is central to your brand, staying on Flodesk is a defensible choice.

Is your list between 1,000 and 10,000 and you need serious automation? Kit’s free plan covers up to 10,000 subscribers, which is worth testing before you commit to any paid platform. If you outgrow it, Kit’s Creator plan adds automation depth that neither Flodesk nor MailerLite matches.

Are you price-sensitive and growing fast? MailerLite gives you the best combination of affordable pricing, solid design tools, and automation capability for small and mid-sized lists. At $10/month for 1,000 subscribers on the Growing Business plan, it beats both Flodesk and Kit on value when features are comparable.

Is your entire business model the newsletter itself? Beehiiv is built for this in a way none of the other tools are. Its monetization infrastructure—paid subscriptions, ad placements, referral programs—is several steps ahead of everyone else in this category.

The Verdict on Flodesk’s New Pricing

Flodesk is still a strong platform. The templates are genuinely better than most competitors at this price range, and the new e-commerce features make it a more complete product than the original unlimited plan supported. The decision to retire flat-rate pricing was commercially predictable—unlimited subscriber pricing is hard to sustain as the platform grows.

What changed is who Flodesk is best for. It was previously a reasonable choice for any creator who wanted beautiful emails without worrying about billing. It is now a reasonable choice for creators who are early-stage, value design above all else, and do not expect to exceed a few thousand subscribers in the near term.

If you have already built a large list under the old plan, or if you are evaluating Flodesk for a fast-growing audience, run the numbers at your target list size against MailerLite or Kit before committing. The gap that once made Flodesk an obvious choice has narrowed considerably.
