That operator DNA shows in everything about the platform. Where most email tools bolt on newsletter features as an afterthought, beehiiv was built newsletter-first from day one.

The free Launch plan supports up to 2,500 subscribers with unlimited sends, a custom domain, and a no-code website builder. Paid plans start at $49/month (Scale) and $109/month (Max), both handling up to 100,000 subscribers. Compared to Mailchimp or ConvertKit at the same subscriber counts, beehiiv is often cheaper — and it charges 0% on paid subscriptions, while Substack takes a 10% cut of every dollar you earn.

Ease of Use

beehiiv’s editor is clean and distraction-free. It’s a block-based writing experience similar to Notion or Medium — you type, add images, embed polls, and publish. If you’ve used any modern writing tool in the last five years, you’ll feel at home within minutes.

The downside: there’s no traditional drag-and-drop email designer. You can’t drag columns, rearrange content blocks visually, or pick from a library of pre-built email templates the way you can in Mailchimp or MailerLite. For newsletter writers who want a simple, text-focused layout, this is fine. For marketers who need heavily designed promotional emails with multiple product images and CTAs, it’s limiting.

Where beehiiv falls short is automation depth. The email automation builder covers welcome sequences, drip campaigns, and behavior triggers, but it’s not in the same league as ActiveCampaign or ConvertKit for complex conditional workflows. There’s no SMS marketing, no ecommerce-specific features (abandoned cart, product recommendations), and the 25 integrations — while covering essentials like Zapier, WordPress, and Shopify — are a fraction of what Mailchimp (300+) or ConvertKit (200+) offer.

Deliverability

beehiiv uses Twilio SendGrid as its sending infrastructure and has invested heavily in deliverability. The platform handles domain warming automatically, gradually building your sender reputation through beehiiv’s own domain before transitioning to yours. Custom sending domains, integrated email validation, and cross-referenced suppression lists are included on all plans.

Our testing shows a 98.5% inbox placement rate, which puts beehiiv among the top performers alongside ConvertKit and MailerLite. The strict onboarding verification — beehiiv reviews new accounts before granting full sending access — keeps spammers off the platform and protects shared IP reputation for everyone.

Support

The free Launch plan has no human support — you’re limited to documentation and the knowledge base. Scale plan users get access to human support and the beehiiv Slack community, which is active and genuinely useful for troubleshooting and networking with other newsletter operators. Max plan users get priority support, and Enterprise customers get a dedicated account manager plus VIP support.

User feedback on support is mixed. beehiiv is the strongest choice for newsletter creators who want to build a media business. If your primary goal is growing a subscriber base, monetizing through ads and paid subscriptions, and using referral-driven growth — beehiiv has no real equal in 2026. The combination of the ad network, Boosts marketplace, referral program, and 0% take rate on paid subscriptions makes it the most creator-friendly monetization stack available.

It’s not the right fit if you need a traditional email marketing platform. Ecommerce stores should look at Klaviyo or Omnisend. Businesses that need deep automation and CRM features are better served by ActiveCampaign or ConvertKit. And if design flexibility matters — branded promotional templates, drag-and-drop layouts, multi-column designs — Mailchimp or MailerLite will serve you better. beehiiv is built for writers and publishers, and that focus is both its greatest strength and its clearest limitation.
