Email Marketing for Bloggers and Creators: Best Tools in 2026

By MailToolFinder Team · · Updated · 8 min read

Every creator platform rents you an audience. Google can bury a blog in a core update, Spotify decides which listeners hear your show, Instagram shows a portfolio post to a slice of your followers, and a streaming service never tells you who played your track. An email list is the one audience you can take with you when a platform changes the rules.

Most email tools were built for ecommerce stores or B2B sales teams. This guide covers the six that fit people who publish, record, perform or shoot for a living: what each one costs at the entry level, where each one falls short, and which creator workflows each one handles well. Every price below was checked against the vendor’s own pricing page on October 5, 2026, and is the monthly-billing rate unless we say otherwise.

Quick Picks

Tool Best for Free plan Paid from (monthly billing)
beehiiv Newsletter-first writers and podcasters Up to 2,500 subscribers Lite, $59/month
Kit Creators who sell products, memberships or courses Up to 10,000 subscribers, no automations Creator, $39/month for 1,000 subscribers
MailerLite Lowest paid price with real automations 250 subscribers, 2,500 emails/month Comfort, $12/month for 500 subscribers
Ghost Blog, newsletter and paid memberships in one place Self-hosted only Starter, $18/month for 1,000 members
Flodesk Visual brands that want the best-looking emails Forms and landing pages only, no sending Lite, $25/month for 1,000 subscribers
Brevo Large, quiet lists you email in bursts 300 emails/day Starter, $9/month for 5,000 emails

Kit (Formerly ConvertKit)

Kit was designed for bloggers, podcasters, course creators and musicians from the start, and its tagging system shows it. You can tag subscribers by the form they used, the link they clicked or the product they bought, then send each group something different.

Kit (ConvertKit)

Email marketing built for creators

4.6/5

Kit (formerly ConvertKit) is purpose-built for online creators including bloggers, podcasters, YouTubers, and course creators. It emphasizes simplicity and deliverability over...

Free plan · from $39/mo Verified Jul 14, 2026

The free plan covers up to 10,000 subscribers with unlimited landing pages, forms and broadcasts, plus tagging, segmentation and digital product sales. What it no longer includes is automation: Kit’s help center lists visual automations, email sequences and RSS campaigns as paid features. Anything you built on a paid plan stops running if you drop to free, and starts again when you upgrade.

The Creator plan costs $39/month on monthly billing for 1,000 subscribers, or $390 a year on annual billing. It adds unlimited visual automations and sequences, RSS campaigns, SMS, subject-line A/B tests, removal of Kit branding and the Kit MCP connector. The Pro plan is $79/month monthly or $790 a year, and adds deliverability reporting, subscriber engagement scoring and a newsletter referral system. Kit charges 3.5% + 30¢ on digital product and subscription sales.

Where Kit falls short: the moment you need a welcome sequence, you’re paying $39/month, which is a lot for a small blog. The editor produces clean, plain emails, not the magazine-style layouts Flodesk or beehiiv give you out of the box. If a review quotes a lower Creator price, it predates Kit’s current pricing. Our Kit pricing breakdown tracks the tiers as your list grows, and Kit alternatives for creators covers where people go when the bill gets too big.

beehiiv

beehiiv treats a newsletter as a publication: a website, an archive, a recommendation network and an ad marketplace come attached. Podcast hosting is now part of every plan too, which makes it the most complete free option for a writer or podcaster starting out.

beehiiv

The newsletter platform built for growth

beehiiv was built by the team behind Morning Brew's growth to 4 million subscribers. It's specifically designed for newsletter businesses with built-in monetization through ad...

Free plan · from $49/mo Verified Jul 14, 2026

The Free plan covers up to 2,500 subscribers with unlimited sends, a website, custom domains, the recommendation network and podcast hosting with RSS distribution. Lite costs $59/month on monthly billing ($49/month billed yearly) and adds email automations, paid subscriptions, the Ad Network, digital products, surveys and polls. Pro costs $109/month monthly ($95/month yearly) and is the first plan that removes beehiiv branding. It also adds RSS-to-send, audio newsletters, dynamic content and click-triggered automations. beehiiv takes 0% of paid subscription and digital product revenue; you pay Stripe’s 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction.

Where beehiiv falls short: automations start at $59/month, and branding removal at $109/month, so the jump from free is steep. Even on paid plans the automation builder is built for newsletters, not multi-branch sales funnels. If you sell courses or coaching off the back of your content, Kit’s tagging goes further. See beehiiv vs Kit for the full head-to-head, or beehiiv vs Substack if you’re weighing the two newsletter-first platforms.

MailerLite

MailerLite is the cheapest paid tool here that still gives you a proper automation builder, landing pages and a website. The interface is quick to learn, which matters when email is a Tuesday-night job and not your main one.

MailerLite

Email marketing tools for growing businesses

4.6/5

MailerLite is known for its simplicity, affordability, and clean design. It's one of the best options for small businesses and beginners who want professional email marketing...

Free plan · from $12/mo Verified Jul 14, 2026

The free plan covers 250 subscribers and 2,500 emails a month, with 3 automations, 1 website and 1 landing page, and 1 digital product or booking page. Comfort costs $12/month for 500 subscribers and raises that to 5,000 monthly emails, 50 automations, 10 websites and landing pages, and 5 digital products or bookings. It also adds RSS campaigns, paid newsletters, the AI writing assistant and removal of the MailerLite logo. Power costs $25/month for 500 subscribers with unlimited sends, automations and landing pages, plus multiple automation triggers. Annual billing takes 10% off, and prices rise with subscriber count.

Where MailerLite falls short: at 250 subscribers, the free plan only suits a brand-new list, so most working creators will pay from the start. Segmentation is lighter than Kit’s, and the stock templates need some customizing before they look like your brand. See our MailerLite pricing breakdown for higher list sizes and MailerLite vs Kit if you’re stuck between the two.

Ghost

Ghost is a publishing platform first. Your blog, newsletter and paid memberships live in one place: you hit publish and the post goes out on the web and to your subscribers’ inboxes at the same time. There is no integration to maintain and no audience to sync between tools.

Ghost

Open-source publishing platform with built-in newsletters and memberships

4.1/5

Ghost is an independent, open-source publishing platform built for professional content creators who want full control over their audience and revenue. It combines a beautiful...

Free plan · from $18/mo Verified Oct 3, 2026

Ghost(Pro) managed hosting starts with the Starter plan at $18/month on monthly billing ($15/month billed yearly) for 1,000 members, including a custom domain and the email newsletter. Paid subscriptions, custom themes and 3 staff users start on Publisher at $35/month monthly ($29/month yearly). All plans include unlimited email sends, and Ghost takes 0% of your subscription revenue; you only pay the payment processor’s fees.

Where Ghost falls short: the email editor is built for text-led posts, not heavily designed newsletters. Moving an existing WordPress blog over takes real work, and you’ll be dealing with DNS records and domains yourself. Ghost is open source, so self-hosting removes the monthly fee, but then server maintenance and security are your job. See Ghost vs Substack and beehiiv vs Ghost for how it stacks up against the other publishing platforms.

Flodesk

Flodesk’s templates are the most design-forward of any tool in this guide, and a non-designer can produce an email that looks like a magazine spread in minutes. That’s why bloggers, photographers and musicians with a strong visual identity keep choosing it.

Flodesk

Free plan · from $25/mo Verified Oct 3, 2026

For anyone signing up today, pricing scales with active subscribers. At up to 1,000 subscribers, Lite costs $25/month ($19/month billed annually), Pro $28/month ($25 annually) and Everything $54/month ($49 annually). Every paid plan includes unlimited sends, and Flodesk only counts active subscribers, not unsubscribed or bounced contacts. Lite includes one workflow automation; Pro adds unlimited workflows, advanced analytics and the option to hide the Flodesk footer. Members who paid before December 2, 2025 keep their legacy flat-rate plan as long as they stay subscribed. Our Flodesk pricing changes article covers the old and new models side by side.

Where Flodesk falls short: the free plan builds forms, landing pages and link-in-bio pages, but it can’t send email, so you pay from your first campaign (a free trial with no credit card lets you test first). Automation and segmentation are basic next to Kit or MailerLite, and advanced analytics wait for Pro. See Flodesk vs Kit and Flodesk vs MailerLite for direct comparisons.

Brevo

Brevo prices paid plans by monthly email volume, which suits a creator with a large list they email occasionally: a musician who announces two tours a year, or a photographer with years of past clients and one holiday mini-session push.

Brevo (Sendinblue)

4.5/5

Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) stands out with its unique pricing model based on email volume rather than subscriber count. This makes it particularly attractive for businesses with...

Free plan · from $9/mo Verified Jul 14, 2026

The free plan sends up to 300 emails a day. Starter costs $9/month for 5,000 emails a month and removes the daily cap; Standard costs $18/month and adds marketing automation and A/B testing. Email and SMS run from the same account, and SMS credits are sold separately.

Where Brevo falls short: automation on Free and Starter runs for up to 2,000 contacts, and Standard removes the cap. The 300-a-day cap means a 5,000-person list takes more than two weeks to receive one free-plan announcement, which rules it out for time-sensitive drops. The templates are functional rather than attractive, about as far from Flodesk as you can get. See MailerLite vs Brevo for the closest comparison.

By Creator Type

The six tools above cover most creators, but the workflow changes depending on what you make.

Bloggers: Send Every New Post Automatically

Most bloggers want each new post to reach subscribers without writing a separate email. That’s RSS-to-email: the tool watches your blog’s RSS feed and sends a campaign when it updates.

  • Kit: RSS campaigns are included on Creator, not on the free plan.
  • MailerLite: RSS campaigns start on Comfort ($12/month).
  • beehiiv: RSS-to-send is a Pro feature ($109/month), because beehiiv expects you to publish on beehiiv itself.
  • Ghost: no RSS step needed, since the post and the newsletter are the same thing.

If your blog runs on WordPress and you want to keep it there, MailerLite Comfort is the cheapest way to automate post emails. If you’re willing to move the blog, Ghost removes the problem entirely.

Podcasters: Turn Listeners Into Subscribers

A podcast with no email list depends entirely on the apps that distribute it. The fix is cheap: every episode already has show notes, so turn them into a newsletter and send it the day the episode drops.

  • beehiiv hosts podcasts on every plan, including Free, with RSS hosting and distribution and imports of existing podcast feeds. Episode pages and the podcast block for your site start on Lite; premium episode previews and an AI podcast newsletter are Pro features.
  • Kit doesn’t host audio, but its free landing pages can embed episodes and link to Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube. Kit Commerce sells bonus episodes and memberships to listeners directly.
  • Substack hosts podcasts natively and publishes to Apple, Spotify and YouTube. It’s free to start, but Substack keeps 10% of paid subscription revenue, plus card fees. Once you have a few hundred paying subscribers, that cut costs more than a beehiiv or Kit plan. Our Substack alternatives guide runs the numbers.

Tactics that work: mention your signup link in the first two minutes of each episode and again at the end, put it in the episode description on every app, and make it your link in bio.

Musicians: Release Days, Tour Dates and Merch

Musicians send in bursts around releases and tours, then go quiet. Two features matter most.

Location segments. Fans in one city don’t care about a show 2,000 miles away. Kit’s tags and segments let you email only your Nashville fans about a Nashville date, or only past merch buyers about a limited vinyl run. Any tool here with segmentation can do the same if you collect city at signup.

Your Bandcamp list. When a fan buys something or follows you on Bandcamp, they’re offered the option to join your mailing list. You can also tick “require email address” on a free download. Export the list from the Mailing list section of your Bandcamp Tools page (the full list, or only addresses added since your last export) and import it into your email tool, so release announcements reach people who already paid you.

Send a release email the day the music drops, a ticket on-sale alert per city, a reminder the week before, and a last call the day before. For show-day “last 20 tickets” alerts, a text lands faster than an email, which is the case for Brevo’s built-in SMS. Kit also sells albums, exclusive tracks and fan-club memberships from its own product pages at 3.5% + 30¢ per sale.

Photographers: Galleries, Bookings and Seasonal Sessions

For a photographer, the email itself is part of the portfolio, which is why Flodesk keeps winning this audience. A gallery-delivery email or print-sale announcement built from its templates matches the images inside it.

The bookings side matters as much. MailerLite sells bookings and digital products directly: 1 on the free plan, 5 on Comfort and unlimited on Power, which covers mini-session slots and preset packs without a separate store. Flodesk’s checkout (1 on Pro, unlimited on Everything) handles paid offers with no Flodesk transaction fee on top of Stripe’s, though it’s limited to businesses in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand and the Euro Area.

Two automations book more repeat work than any newsletter redesign: an instant reply to every new inquiry, and an anniversary reminder a year after each session. Then plan your sends around the calendar: fall family sessions, holiday minis, a spring print sale. If you have years of past clients you only email a few times a year, Brevo’s volume-based pricing can cost less than a per-subscriber plan.

How to Choose

If you’re starting from zero and want to stay free as long as possible, beehiiv’s free plan covers 2,500 subscribers and includes podcast hosting. Kit’s free plan covers more subscribers, but without automations you’ll be hand-sending every welcome email.

If you sell products, courses or memberships, Kit’s tagging and built-in commerce are the most purpose-built for creator funnels. Budget $39/month from the point you need a sequence.

If you want the lowest paid price with automations, MailerLite at $12/month is hard to beat, and Comfort adds RSS campaigns and bookings.

If you want your blog, newsletter and paid memberships in one place, Ghost removes the integration work. The trade-off is a steeper setup.

If email design matters most and your workflows are simple, Flodesk’s editor is the best here. Price it at your real list size, not the headline rate.

If you have a big list you email rarely, price Brevo against the subscriber-based tools at your actual send volume.

Whatever you choose, the welcome email does more work than anything else you’ll send: tell new subscribers what to expect, link your three best posts or episodes, and invite a reply. Our welcome sequence guide covers what to put in it, and the email list building guide covers how to fill it. The Bottom Line

For most bloggers and podcasters, beehiiv offers the most useful free tier in 2026, with publishing, podcast hosting and growth tools built in. Kit is still the strongest option for creators who sell, as long as you budget for Creator from day one. MailerLite is the sensible low-cost paid plan, Ghost solves the platform problem for publication-first writers, Flodesk suits visual brands like photographers, and Brevo fits musicians and photographers with large, quiet lists.

Pick one and use it every week. Showing up in the inbox consistently matters more than which platform sends the email.
