Overview

MailerLite has quietly become one of the best values in email marketing since launching in Lithuania in 2010. While Mailchimp spends on brand awareness and ActiveCampaign chases enterprise features, MailerLite focuses on doing the fundamentals well at a price that doesn’t punish growth. The Comfort plan starts at $12/month for 500 subscribers.

MailerLite cut the free plan in June 2026 to 250 subscribers and 2,500 monthly emails. It still includes automations, all three email editors (drag and drop, Custom HTML and Simple), a website and a landing page. Templates are limited on Free; the full template library starts on Comfort.

One detail worth noting — MailerLite only charges for active, unique subscribers. Unsubscribed and bounced contacts don’t count toward your quota, unlike Mailchimp where you pay for dead weight unless you manually purge your list.

Ease of Use

This is where MailerLite genuinely stands out. The interface is clean, uncluttered, and logically organized. New users can set up an account, verify their domain, and send a first campaign within 20 minutes. The drag-and-drop editor is fast and flexible, with content blocks that snap into place without fighting the layout.

The learning curve is minimal. MailerLite includes contextual video tutorials throughout the dashboard, so you rarely need to leave the app to figure something out. For comparison, Mailchimp’s feature sprawl across CRM, social posting, and website building creates navigation complexity that MailerLite deliberately avoids.

The trade-off is fewer design options. The template library has around 90 designs (paid plans only), compared to Mailchimp’s 100+ and Brevo’s 200+. If you need pixel-perfect branded emails, the Custom HTML editor is available on every plan, including Free, though for most small businesses the visual builder handles the job.

Automation & Features

MailerLite covers the automation basics well: welcome sequences, abandoned cart flows, date-triggered campaigns, and subscriber-activity triggers. The visual automation builder is straightforward, and setting up a 5-step welcome series takes minutes rather than hours.

Beyond email, the platform includes a website builder, blog hosting, landing pages, signup forms, pop-ups, and digital product sales. The recent addition of appointment booking — for scheduling free and paid calls — pushes it further into all-in-one territory. A/B testing supports subject lines, content variations, and send times, with auto-resend to non-openers available on paid plans.

Where MailerLite falls short is advanced automation logic. There’s no multi-path branching, no lead scoring, and no website visit tracking as triggers. If you need conditional workflows with 10+ decision points or CRM-style pipeline automations, ActiveCampaign or Drip will serve you better. For straightforward sequences that cover 80% of small business needs, MailerLite delivers without the complexity tax.

The integration library has around 140 connections including Shopify, WooCommerce, WordPress, Stripe, and Zapier. That’s serviceable but smaller than Mailchimp’s 300+ or ActiveCampaign’s 900+.

Deliverability

MailerLite consistently ranks among the top performers for inbox placement. Independent tests from EmailToolTester put it at a 95.2% average deliverability rate, and other sources report figures between 91% and 97.5% depending on methodology. That places it ahead of Mailchimp (around 96%) and in the same tier as ConvertKit and Postmark.

The strict account approval process is a big reason why. New accounts are manually reviewed, and MailerLite rejects senders with purchased lists or spammy practices. This keeps the shared IP pools clean, which directly benefits everyone on the platform. It’s inconvenient if you want to start sending within 5 minutes — some users report waiting 24-48 hours for approval — but the deliverability payoff is real.

Built-in SPF and DKIM authentication setup is guided and clear. There’s no dedicated deliverability dashboard, though, so you’ll rely on open rates and bounce metrics as indirect signals rather than seeing inbox placement data directly.

Support

Paid plan users get 24/7 email support, with 24/7 live chat added on the Power plan (from $25/month). Response quality is generally strong: MailerLite’s support team has won industry awards and reviewers consistently rate them above Mailchimp and Brevo for helpfulness.

Free plan users have access to the knowledge base and email support, which is more than Mailchimp offers (email support for 30 days only on free). The documentation is well-organized with step-by-step guides and video walkthroughs.

The weakness is response times outside business hours (MailerLite is based in Europe). Several users report slower replies on weekends and evenings US time. If you need instant help at 2 AM on a Saturday before a Monday campaign, that’s a gap worth knowing about.

Who Should Use MailerLite

MailerLite is the right pick for small businesses, creators, bloggers, and nonprofits who want reliable email marketing without overpaying. It’s particularly strong for anyone under 10,000 subscribers who needs automations, landing pages, and solid deliverability at a fraction of what Mailchimp or ConvertKit charges.

It’s not the right fit if you need advanced multi-channel automation (look at ActiveCampaign), SMS marketing (try Omnisend or Brevo), or enterprise-grade features like lead scoring and CRM workflows. The approval process can also frustrate businesses that need to migrate and start sending immediately.

For everyone else — and that’s a lot of email senders — MailerLite punches well above its price point.

What changed in 2026

Simple editor blocks and copy-paste for automation steps

The Simple editor gained a Code block for plain HTML (no JavaScript, iframes or embeds) and a Video block that accepts YouTube and Vimeo links. You can also copy an automation step from the three-dot menu and paste it into any valid position in a workflow.

Product variant support for e-commerce stores

Variant data (size, color, price, inventory) now syncs from WooCommerce, Shopify, Wix and BigCommerce. That lets the Buys specific product trigger target the exact variant a customer bought. Squarespace does not support specifying product variations.

Abandoned cart and abandoned checkout split into two triggers

MailerLite now has six e-commerce triggers: Abandoned cart, Abandoned checkout, Buys any product, Buys specific product, Buys from category and Purchase frequency. Abandoned cart fires when a subscriber adds items and leaves before checkout, and a cart counts as abandoned 30 minutes after the shopper leaves. Purchase frequency fires at milestone order counts (every 3rd, 5th or 10th order) with an optional order cap.

Which triggers you get depends on the integration. PrestaShop, Shoper, Wix and the e-commerce API support all six. Shopify and BigCommerce support every trigger except Abandoned cart.

Simple editor and Custom HTML editor with AI agent

The Simple editor is a single-column writing editor. It keeps formatting when you paste from Google Docs, Notion, Apple Notes or AI tools, and it replaces the legacy Rich-Text Editor.

The rebuilt Custom HTML editor adds live preview, syntax highlighting, real-time validation, search and replace, one-click formatting, automatic CSS inlining and ZIP imports up to 10MB (for example Canva exports). It also has an AI agent that writes HTML from plain-English prompts. MailerLite lists both editors as available on all plans.

Our Verdict

After 16 years on the market, MailerLite has established itself as a top-tier email marketing platform. Its strongest areas are ease of use (4.8/5) and value for money (4.8/5). Where it falls short is deliverability (4.4/5) — free plan limited to 250 subscribers and 2,500 emails/month. The free plan makes it easy to try without risk. Best suited for small businesses, beginners, bloggers — if that's your profile, MailerLite is worth serious consideration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does MailerLite have a free plan?
Yes. MailerLite offers a free plan for up to 1,000 subscribers with 12,000 monthly email sends. It includes the drag-and-drop editor, landing pages, and signup forms.
Does MailerLite add unsubscribe links automatically?
Yes. MailerLite automatically adds an unsubscribe link to every email to comply with anti-spam laws like CAN-SPAM and GDPR. You cannot remove it.
How often should I clean my subscriber list in MailerLite?
MailerLite recommends cleaning your list at least once a year. Removing inactive and bounced subscribers improves deliverability and reduces costs since pricing is based on subscriber count.

Can I use MailerLite for ecommerce?
Yes. MailerLite integrates with Shopify, WooCommerce, and other ecommerce platforms. It supports product blocks in emails, abandoned cart automations, and purchase-based segmentation.
Does MailerLite support automations?
