What We Looked For

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a dedicated transactional email service? +

Your app's password resets, order confirmations, and notifications need to arrive instantly and reliably. Marketing email platforms optimize for throughput, not speed. Transactional services like Postmark guarantee sub-second delivery with 99%+ inbox rates.

Can I use the same service for transactional and marketing emails? +

You can, but it's risky. Marketing emails can hurt your sender reputation, which delays transactional emails. Best practice is to use separate services or at minimum separate IP addresses/subdomains for each type.

How much do transactional email services cost? +

Most charge per email. Postmark starts at $1.25/1,000 emails. Amazon SES is $0.10/1,000 emails (cheapest). Mailgun starts around $0.80/1,000. For most apps sending under 50,000 emails/month, expect $5–$50/month.
